This clinic is aimed at people who are serious about getting into the sport of whitewater paddling but have little or very limited experience. This two-day instruction will set you on your way to whitewater kayaking. Topics covered will include: boat and river outfi tting, wet exits, rolling, boat control, reading whitewater, river running and rescue. The instructors, depending on the skills and desires of the students for each class, will determine the clinic setting/river section. Students must arrange for equipment and their own transportation to take part in the clinic. Limited amount of gear is available on first-come, first-serve basis. Also it is advised to participate in club pool sessions before the clinic to get familiar with kayak and gear.
Registration deadline for the Beginner Clinic is May 1, 2008. Must be 18 and older unless accompanied by a parent.

About Us

Our
Mission
Our main purpose is to unite persons interested in
paddling and to promote the safe and responsible
use of navigable waters.
About the Vikings
Louisville, KY certainly isn't a Mecca of
riversports, but some folks who insist on living
here do manage to find places to paddle. Our
membership is made up of all types, from beginners
to class V boaters. We paddle canoes, rafts,
duckies and kayaks. In the winter months you will
find many of us at the pool trying to nail that
roll or flatwater cartwheel.
Anyone is welcome to join the club - what ever your
paddling interest is, ability, or level of
experience - this is a chance to meet others with
common interests and similar skill levels.
Our goal is to
have fun!
Organized trips are planned throughout the year
with veteran members leading on a volunteer basis.
An important goal of the Viking Canoe Club is to
offer its members the opportunity to improve their
paddling skills. Every spring the Vikings hold a
clinic for novice paddlers. The Viking Canoe Club
emphasizes safety and many members have taken Swift
Water Rescue classes and are trained in CPR.
Vikings also contribute to the conservation and
access to the rivers we enjoy.
If you live in the area and have an interest in
paddling, we invite you to join us. Dues are $20.00
per year (due in January). Membership dues help to
support the newsletter, website, forum,
conservation, access and social activities.
Download a membership application from the website
or come to a club meeting held on the second Monday
of every month at KT's Restaurant, 2300 Lexington
Road at Grinstead, 6:30 pm for food/social, 7:30
meeting.
Visitors are always welcome.
Official Announcement
Nominations for 2007 Officers are as follows:
President: Angella Anderson
Vice President: Kevin Hisel
Treasurer: Donna Sloan
Secretary: Jason Russo
Nominations for 2007 Executive Committee are as follows:
Dave Ackerman
Todd Schindler
Charlie Sloan
Additional nominations will be accepted at the meeting on 11/13/06. Voting will be held at the 11/13/06 meeting.
Annual Dinner Meeting will be held 1/27/07.
Location to be announced.
WV Trip is now the Ocoee Trip
August 5th & 6th
Jump on your bus and head South. We'll now be heading to the Ocoee, with the options of the Nanty (1 1/2 hr drive) and the Hiwassee (45 min drive) for those not ready for the Ocoee. With luck we might get rained on and the Tellico might be an option.
My plan is to camp at Chilhowee Friday and Saturday nights. Since there is no group camping at the location each person will be responsible for his or her own camping arrangements, but I'm going to try to get there early and grab at least a couple sites close together depending on the advance notice I get from everyone. They are first come first served, but unless they have a loop or two closed there should be room for everyone.
