Greetings Vikings!

Jedi Dave here with the End of Summer Update. We have had an amazing summer with Viking trips to the Nolichucky, Pigeon, and Ocoee rivers to name a few.

Club gear has been moving in and out all summer with trips to Utah, The Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia, and everywhere in between. So, lets talk gear for a moment. A huge shout of thanks to Shayne Day of Ripped Inflatables for another stellar service to our Gray Raft, and Todd Garland and Mike Lutke for helping transport that boat back home. We will continue adding new gear this year to the club inventory with PFD’s, Helmets, Paddles, K-Pumps, Coolers, a HUGE canopy and more. Stay tuned for an upcoming gear day this fall where well cook brats, inspect boats and gear, make sure everything is labeled and then get it ready for winter storage. Speaking of inspections! Coming up to fall and what I personally consider the more “serious” whitewater runs, take an opportunity to check out your gear and make sure its ready to rock and roll. Take your ropes out, make sure they’re ready to throw. Check your helmets and PFD’s. Don’t forget to check out your shuttle rig too. Make sure your racks are good, check your air filter, tires, brakes, and battery. You don’t want to be broke down halfway into Masons Branch.

As summer draws to a close, fall festivals and creeking season begins. Here’s some upcoming events where you should see Vikings in the wild.

  • Louisville Hike Bike n’ Paddle Labor Day
  • Gauley Season (Sept 8th – Oct 22nd)
  • Gauley Fest (Sept 15-17)
  • NOC Nantahala Guest Appreciation Festival (Sept 22-24)
  • New River Gorge Bridge Day (Oct 21)
  • Russel Fork Season (Sept 29 – Oct 29)
  • Russel Fork Rendezvous (Oct 27-29)

We are still discussing the possibility of a SWR this fall, Stay Tuned!
