1st, I’d like to take this time to say, thank you to everyone who stepped up to become a Viking Canoe Club member. It means a lot and helps the club grow. Keep it up and this club will go places… On a river of course! Thanks Again!
2nd, I’d like to Congratulate the BWA for winning the Jess Cup 2026. Way to go team!
5th, the Viking Logo Contest is going live tonight. We will be giving away a GoPro Hero Action Camera. We are looking for people to design a logo that has, “Viking Canoe Club,” “Louisville, Ky,” and “Est 1969” within the logo. Club colors are Red and Blue, but anything will work if it flows. We are imagining a Viking shield or a Viking head shot image, but if you have a better Idea, let’s see it. If your Logo is picked, we may suggest a change or two. That will be up to the board members, then voted on by club members. If you’re not on Facebook please send your art work to vikingcanoeclubinc@gmail.com along with your name. So good luck and can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
6th, the 2026 Viking Canoe Club Beginners Clinic with Brad Burden is coming up soon. APRIL 24th-26th Bryson City, NC. Friday 4/24: Turbo Talk; Saturday 4/25: Fontana Lake and Tuckaseegee River; Sunday 4/26: Optional fun river run day on Nantahala or Tuckaseegee. Camping: Nantahala RV Resort and Campground, 11 Country Road, Bryson City, NC, 28713. Cost: $100 & includes camping, food (two breakfasts and a dinner), instruction, and insurance.

7th, the Viking Canoe Club is putting on a FREE SWR class for 11 paid members. 5 spots are for new members or former members renewing their membership, who also have river/paddling experience. It will be held April 25/26 on the Elkhorn River with John Gates, an ACA instructor. We are looking for 1 paddle volunteer and 1 dry ground volunteer. The paddle volunteer should have completed a SWR previously, be familiar with paddling in small groups, and able to set up basic rigging. Tasks include setting up training scenarios and setting downstream safety during exercises. The dry ground volunteer will coordinate lunch with the team and assist with logistics on the ground. 10th, Roll Practice at Mary-T starts back up this Friday the 20th from 7-9. 2026 Indoor Roll Sessions

• Swim team done at 7:00 PM
• Boats out by 8:50 PM
Cost
• $8 per visit (ALL PARTICIPANTS INCLUDING VIEWERS)
• Check in at the front desk
• Bring boats through the side garage door after checking in
Special Notes
• Boats must be clean before entering, use hose by side-door.
• Brad Burden with B-Flow Sessions will be running separate paid roll-instruction sessions during these Fridays for anyone wanting focused coaching.
11th Vikings using the AMA Church Parking Lot… It has come to my attention that people are not paying their $6 at the AMA Church put-in. Please make sure that you’re paying if you’re using their property to access the Elkhorn River. If not they’re going to stop it. I’m sure no one wants this to happen, so if you’ve used it before without paying, pay a little more or it’s no more. If you do drop money in the box you’re very much appreciated! Thanks and hope you understand! *From my understanding there’s now a QR Code for Venmo on the box in the parking lot.*
